No idea why you're trying to extract them whenever you can open / modify them in notepad++?! If it were a pak file then you wouldn't be able to modify the stats, unless you unpacked it first. I've changed a TON of .N2PK files using only notepad++ to alter items, gameplay , quests, rewards, etc. You just have to be careful because only certain things can be changed. I.E. It seems that you cannot just add / copy certain skills from one item to another, etc.
Jesus Fing Christ. Wish i noticed it before i actually managed to unpack all these archives. At least im dealing with separate files now which little more convenient. And what do you mean by "add / copy certain skills from one item to another"? Any examples maybe?
Ah! I wish that I would have explained that before you did that, lol.
Examples:
1) Kinda like I tried to delete the "Beta" gun that the tech started with and put in the "Alpha" one, but couldn't never get it to work. It kept crashing the game when I created a new tech character.
2) Changing stats on the weapons like: reload / heat / dmg / adding skills like extra pet slots and such. It seems that in order for these to work you have to do it in ALL places and they're several places for each of these stats on each weapon. I did finally get the "heat" to work --- I just doubled it to 80 from 40 (look at my screenshots on page 32).
3) In the .N2PK files it seems that the game is hard coded to a certain amount of each stat. I.E. You can change the heat / stats / level / etc, but only to a certain point before it will immediately crash the game. If you try to put 9999 it won't work, but it will work with 99 or 999 (depends on what number the stat is to begin with). If the stat is say 50, only put 99. If it's 132, it can be up to 999, etc. If the game crashes, then just lower the number a bit and try again.
4) I also tried to switch some skills on different guns with others and that doesn't seem to work. Again, I think it's because it's listed in many places other than one, so when the game loads it's reading different skills in different places, etc.
5) MAKE SURE TO BACK UP ALL THE FILES BEFORE YOU CHANGE ANYTHING!
I copied the entire cfg and JSON folder before I changed anything so that I would have original files to go back to. Another thing, don't change 100+ things at once, because if the game crashes you'll have no idea what did it. I usually change one to three things at most and try to see if the game loads, that way I can just "undo" the changes.
