I'm no expert at this, but maybe you could set it to 0 the same way you accidentally set it to 9999? So change the item count in cheat engine from 9999 to 0, then mess with the tank again so it resets?
I know a few of you edited your save before so I'd appreciate some help from you guys. After I decrypted and downloaded my save I made some changes to unlock some stuff. Things like Dare and Curse mode, the according trophies for those as well as solving 40 of each parlor and darts puzzle, reaching room 46 under 1h and so on. It all seemed rather straight-forward with simply changing numbers or switching stuff from true to false and vice versa. When I did all that, I encrypted the edited file again to use the save. But upon starting the game I only had the option to start a new game, so I guess something got corrupted to the point of the game not accepting the save anymore. Luckily I made a backup before.
So anyone have experience with unlocking those trophies and so on the easy way? Any idea what I could have done wrong?

If there is a diamond, it is the Hovel. Could you please explain how to do both of these? I don't really mind disrupting the gameplay as I've already played quite a lot of this game and would like to play around more with this kind of stuff.

If it's really broken and not a misunderstanding of how the puzzle works I would try save editing. Look online for "EasySave3 Editor" to decrypt your savegame in your browser. You will need to input the decryption key as well, which you can likewise find by a simple Google or Reddit search. Once you've downloaded your decrypted save you can simply open the file in a text editor of your choice. Then search for stuff like "pump" or "level" as this will allow you to change the values for the tanks and different areas. Mind you, I only took a quick look and there might be more options. It also might not work like this at all. But it's probably worth a shot. Once you're done remember to encrypt your save again using the same online editor

The to be sorted section has a bunch of stuff from the save file I will sort through at some point but most things in there require calling it a day for it to change water levels and such I noticed. I haven't tested everything in there so probably be careful just like actually editing the save with the online editor.
Within the draft editor I believe those change the likelihood of something being drafted like having the king chess power or the stars powers. The room chooser you will have to follow my instructions to use correctly.
You can also set your luck high as and items will be spawning all over the place. I might update the table at some point but I don't have too much time these days unfortunately
