Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has stated that he believes video games should be priced differently depending on the “expected entertainment usage”, AKA the length of time it takes for players to complete them.
This sounds like an episode of Black Mirror right? What fresh hell are they thinking of imposing upon us, as if the microtransactions weren't bad enough. They can't impose it right now but the fact they are saying this now means they are thinking of it and it might happen one day or they will try to make it happen.
It reminds me of the time when EA first enforced being always-online with SimCity with huge backlash and now it is normal.

Re: GTA 6 publisher thinks gamers should pay more for longer games
Well, fun fact. Gamers used to pay $40 USD for fully created, 60+ hour games filled to the brim with content that needed not a single microtransaction. These games were and still are lauded in many regards as amazing and sell for hundreds of dollars. There's a reason that not a single new game that has come out in the last 10 years sells for near that much.

Fake news.
Even though the publisher stated this, they have absolutely no intention of doing this in the future.

Are you a soothsayer or psychic or something. How are so absolutely sure of what their intentions are?
20 years ago if someone told you there will be unpolished unfinished pre-alpha games that would be sold, you would call him crazy.
Change doesn’t happen overnight but it does happen. I play GTA5 to an insane level and Take two has made it a micro-transaction hell to the point it is unrecognisable from what it was in past. If they are saying this then it should make you very uncomfortable because it’s the direction they want to head in

Twitter had a post on the topic of creating GTA6 and making it a "pay to play for X amount of time", and it was fact checked and proven to be false. Also, it was noted that the developers had no intention of doing this, as they included the game market wouldn't support it either by it's infrastructure and game users.FakeRex wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 12:19 pmAre you a soothsayer or psychic or something. Yes, GTA5 has become a complete nightmare in terms of the amount of micro-transactions are available; but they're just following suit with every other major game released. There will always be skins, gems, weapon packs etc. in games. I was just trying to relay that (as of right now) there's no evidence to suggest they will force players to "rent" GTA6 in order to play it. The GTA series has always been sort of a mile marker when it comes to games, that's how big of an impact it has on the gaming community as a whole. If they really did decide to go down this road, and other game devs followed suit, I think they would quickly realize how much money they'd lose -- or force people to just play cracked versions that don't have a time limit.
