Final Fantasy III - PSP - EXP Pointer Help

I'm playing a translated Japanese PSP ISO for Final Fantasy III, and I'm trying to find the value for the EXP you earn after battles.

I've tried every possible type - byte, 2 byte, 4 bytes, etc; but nothing works.
Has anyone done this or can figure it out?

EDIT: I have found the 4 addresses for after battle EXP gain (2 bytes), but when I change them they dont work in-game. :/
