Firstly, pretty much ignore batting and bowling ability level values.geo223 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 12:38 pmDon't suppose someone can explain how this works? I'm a bit of an idiot with this stuff, but how do the values for players work and what do you influence to, say, make them better? Etc. For instance, for a better is it batting ability level or batting ability that want to be changed - and how? One has, say, a rating of 824 and the other 3, and this doesn't seem too different across players?
For batting ability, the higher you increase the 'Batting Ability' value on the table, the better the batsman will be key. The thing is though, there are other factors that affect batting ability that people haven't figured out yet, so the batting ability value can't reliably be compared against other players. For example, a player with a batting ability of 1200 might consistently outperform another player with a batting ability of 1300. Generally of course, you will still on average find that most players with higher batting values are better than most players with relatively lower batting values.
Keeping the above in mind, the following is a good indicator for how skilled a batsman is:
~500 and below - Tail-ender
600-800 - Includes bowlers who bats at 9 or 10 for
800-1000 - Includes bowler who bats a bit/bowling all-rounder
1000-1200 - Includes lower order batsman and sloggers
1300-1400 - Very solid domestic quality batsman for domestic circuits like Australia, England etc (i.e high quality domestic circuits). Would easily get into teams like Bangladesh, Ireland, Zimbabwe as a batsman.
~1500 - Likely pushing for a spot in top 5 international teams.
~1600 - Pretty much consistent selection in top 5 teams.
1700+ - World class batsman, probably will become a legend of the game. Guys like Kohli and Smith are high 1700s I believe.
For bowling, the same things apply that I said about batting. The only difference is, lower bowling ability ratings means the bowler is better.
~1000 - Part-time bowler.
~900 - Poor bowler in English domestic circuit. Would struggle to get into decent county sides as a bowler.
~800 - Decent county bowler.
~700 - Pushing for international selection. I think guys like Woakes, Tom Curran, etc are around this range for reference.
~600 - very solid bowler getting selection for top 5 international teams. Pat Cummins around this range.
560 and below - World class bowler
If you want to change the age of a player to a specific value, just search up a current player in the database that is the age you want, and copy over DOB 1-4 values. I think everything else on the table is pretty self explanatory.
