I also experienced that. Well technically the no damage to player still works it just makes the secret boss invincible as well!
I just turned it off as the boss isn't that hard. I quite enjoyed the game although the edit current level/xp was a godsend to cut down on post game grinding to upgrade the characters to level 30!
