Looking for help to write my first script and understand memory regions

Post by kspiegler »

Basically I have never written a script, and I have trouble understanding memory regions in every sense, but I have used a lot of cheat tables so I have a broad idea of what the function of the script should be. I am not sure if this is the right place to write this since its not a request for a cheat table, but I want help to learn and understand cheat engine and get overall help to achieve the script/function I wanna have

to get started what I want is either a replacer script (replacing an Item/ID with another to get what I need) or a script that adds an Item/ID to my inventory(which I assume would be a lot harder)

for that the first hurdle I have is to actually get the ID of the Item I want, I have 0 expierence in that regard so I am not sure how to start, the game has an inventory system when I can hover over things and see their attributes, but I cannot select them, I can also equip items onto characters maybe that way I can find the Address that gets rewritten when the equipment changes but I am not sure, but again even if I knew how to find the Address I am looking for I have no idea how get the ID's of other items, I would assume that it can be read through the memory region which is why I want to understand that a bit more aswell

the second hurdle is what the script then actually does, so it could either find the item I last hovered over and get its ID for me to then replace it, or which I think might be easier is to get items equipped to my character and then change that, but as a complete newbie to making something myself in cheat engine those are all just assumptions I have from the many times I used tables of talented makers

any help for a starting point, recommendations, guides, or anything of the sorts is greatly appriciated and I am still unsure if this is the right section for my post
