I just checked again, and it seems that the Java runtime supplied with the game crashes as soon as Cheat engine tries to dissect java classes. No idea why.... Fortunately I did manage to get the cheats to run by using the java runtime that was locally on my machine. So here is a small workaround tha...

The main feature is a stable Influence hook that does not crash after a while due to Java's memory moves.
