Word of warning : using the "max affinity with 1 gift" from the table will mess up companion's quest lines. Companion's affinity has several tiers that you can unlock by completing their sidequests, which allows you in turn to give them gifts in order to reach the next tier, unlocking the next step...

i think the level of the unit is just a displayed number, since when a unit go into battle, the level is back to the previous number

Is there a way to break the damage cap or go past the Level 50 Cap? I'd like to push my stats past 999 if possible. If not, I'll just take 999. Also is there a way to unlock all classes right away? It seems that stats are static, ie. level-based and item-based (you start with about 20 and end with about 40 in each attribute). I saw a post elsewhere that said the devs had posted something on Twitter to the effect of there being some minor RNG during each level-up, but that all stats are fixed ...
