How does the growth after battle code work? I seem to get stuck. Pressing X produces a sound that something is happening but the screen remains the same and nothing appears except the character's name. Please help

Whenever I change the value of Amrita, the game does a soft restart. It also doesn't let you level up while the Amrita modifier is active.
