Change of forum software

Post by Akabane » Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:41 am

I guess it's too late, I'm new around here but in 2018, the only forum to aim for is http://discourse.com/ :/ That's why a LOT of ppl are going for it. It's free, huge community, good business model behind, but yeah, need some skills to deploy (it use docker), import. We did all manually from IPB. If we can do it... ;) We're hosting it on a 50 bucks per month server since 2015, full SSD, and we have like 10k users daily.

Import from XF as been done before. Just my 2 cts. I know how painful this things are...

I have used discourse and it is painfully limited in forum like features that we're used to (signatures, big avatars, you know the standard forum look and most importantly attachments don't have descriptions - a feature which this community wants a lot). It's hard to customize as well. So not suited for our needs.

I get what they imagine forum discussions to be like and it might be for someone else but not us.

Is Attachment Browser affected as well? It seem it is? I really like Attachment Browser because it is easier to find all the tables in one spot than going though over 100 pages to find which one works and which one is specialized. It was working fine last week then this week, it disappeared? I am going to assume it is affected as well.

Reading your post, STN. Sorry you have to go through all of that. I am happy you are here to preserve tables and provide us alternative platform for us to enjoy our games. I am extremely grateful for what you did. I do respect Dark Byte decision but I am disappointed with the action that Dark Byte took. Wish I can do something to help you, but all I have is thank yous for you and the teams.

Yeah, unfortunately the Attachment Browser is gone. And I don't think PhpBB tracks the downloads in the same way, I really liked the Attachment Browser but I haven't seen anything like it for PhpBB.
