Tried again but:

I don't see the Gold on the screen, unit seems to have only 1 health.

And honestly i have no idea what kind of cheat could possibly be made in this game. The game is already too simple.

I've played the game and found that the army is a 2 bytes 2 values
as for the health in kenjutsu (or sword fight ) is a byte value both for the player and the opponent ,it start with 0
at the beginning.
as of the health in top down mini game i couldn't find the value

In case you are interested, I've created a modified version of the game that basically prevents you from losing.

battle.exe: Invincible army (player only, CPU dies)
duel.exe: Invincible you; CPU sword swings will not affect you
melee.exe: Invincible you, no slowdown, always use bow, zero bow reload time.

I created it using DosBox debugger and Cheat engine. I could create a trainer, but that'd take me some time (I'd like to do it old-style with music and fancy ASCII).

See you!

Sure, here are battle.exe and duel.exe.

[In my next post below is an updated mod]

I'm still working on melee.exe; I'll upload it later today or next weekend (busy with work during the week). Let me know if you find anything wrong.

Have fun!

Here's the completed mod. I added melee stages with invincibility and fast reload, but I'll still need to work on "always use bow" and "no slowdown". For the time being, this mod will be enough to beat the game in No-Dachi difficulty without facing the dishonor of defeat.

Eventually I'll create a trainer to activate/deactivate options instead of having statically modified binaries.

Have fun!

That's cool. Of course, I'd still love some way of making your guy immortal (age wise) so that you can play as long as you want in a specific phase without having to worry about dying of old age and needing to switch to a child.

Sure, that's a good one. Age also has the effect of diminishing your swordmanship and command. It makes the game realistic but it's a bummer when you are invested in your character. There's a specific age that maximizes final score... "Young Adult" I think. I could fix it to that one and no worries about retiring.

I'm also thinking about super-speed in both the travel map and melee fights. Sometimes it's a bit tedious to spend so much time walking.
