Looks like the best way to do things is to actually modify the assembly file and change the stars multiplier.

Everything works great again. The only thing that can't be permanently modified looks like accessories. They always reset when you reload and you can't reforge them in to something you want.

As someone previously posted the changes you make to equipment only stay until you reload the game at which point it resets back to the values before you edited it.

What are they going to do? Call the FBI, no knock raid your home, take you PC, look through your shadow of war save file to see if you manipulated your resources with your preferred hex editor?
