Wellness Wednesday: Who is your lion?

Most people are used to feeling okay. Why not great? What has happened to the real feelings of great energy and vitality?

The answer is a chronic state of stress. Stress comes in many different forms: physical, chemical, electromagnetic, psychic, nutritional and thermal.

Stress can be a positive state. It makes us achieve goals, win races, get fit, succeed in work, relationships, etc. Imagine the caveman, stressed to the highest when hunting or running from a lion. When he was safe, the stress levels came down and he recovered and healed all of the exhausted systems in his body.

We are living like the lion is after us all of the time today. Who or what is your lion? Whatever it is, you need to identify it and, either get rid of it, or resolve it. Is the stress you are having full-time necessary? Or are you creating it?

Take nutrition, for instance. Are you helping your body deal with life by feeding it the right foods? This means foods that will be easy to digest, help you to stay focused and give you all the vitamins and minerals you need. When I work with individuals and small businesses to help them with their health and wellness, I ask them to fill out a long questionnaire about their eating habits, stress levels, sleep patterns and digestive systems. There is a question related to stress and cravings. 90% of my clients respond that they eat more sugar when they are stressed. This is probably the opposite of what should be done. Take a good look at how you deal with your stress, and try to bring it down.

We are all being forced to change on so many levels currently; a recalibration. Even the big cats need a nap!
