1 Comment It is a glorious Monday and what better way to start than with thoughts from the beautiful brain of Alan Watts? He is one of our absolute favorite thinkers. His question is so important when you're getting started on life's journey but it's never fully answered. It might be worth asking every few years for the rest of us too. Happy Monday.

This is brilliant. Sounds simple right? It isn't. The difference in satisfaction between people who have followed their heart and not the crowd is the same difference between the moon and the stars. I visit with successful business owners who ask for my assistance in transferring wealth to younger generations; or through outright gifting to charities; or by setting up philanthropic-minded endowments. When we sit down to make plans we inevitably spend most of our time reminiscing on how fun it was to start something from nothing. The outcome being far less important than the process and the people. We discuss the efforts and their family. There is no career. There is only their life. One is the other.
To these successful people, money is a nothing more than a dividend to a life-long pursuit of happiness.
Successful entrepreneurs rarely delineate ‘career’ from life. I have found that the happiest people eventually found a passion, practiced it and honed it for many years; and from this have reaped financial rewards far greater than they ever thought possible. This driving spirit isn't capitalism; it is the pursuit and practice of individualism. It really is ours to have. But we have to go out and get it. It's not always easy, life is far from perfect. Periods of life can be very cruel. But a life in pursuit of creating something with a vision is much preferred than taking orders all day long from a person who is taking orders all day long from a person who is taking orders all day long.
Thanks for sharing. I wish all 20-somethings could watch this and find inspiration in individualism. Capitalism needs it to thrive.
Long live passionate people.
Thanks for passing along,
